Empty America is an award-winning documentary short that has earned 17 Best Documentary Short awards, 7 Finalist selections, 4 Semi-Finalist honors, 2 Honorable Mentions, and recognition in the World Book of Short Films.
Captured by underdog filmmaker Barry Walton, the film offers a rare and haunting look at America during the earliest days of the COVID-19 pandemic. Through stunning time-lapse photography, sweeping aerial drone cinematography, and intimate handheld imagery, Empty America captures the unprecedented silence that settled across the nation's highways, cities, and small towns.
Driven by authentic sound bites from regional AM radio stations across the country, the documentary asks a simple yet profound question: How did we get here, and what is the road back home?
More than a record of a historic moment, Empty America is a powerful snapshot of a nation brought to a standstill, revealing America as it had never been seen before and, hopefully, will never be seen again.
